Heather Owen, MD

Dr. Heather Owen serves as the chief clinical officer of TeamHealth Emergency Medicine. In this role, Dr. Owen leads the clinical and operational aspects of the Emergency Medicine service line, including:
- quality and safety
- clinical guidelines
- policies and procedures
- performance improvement
With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Owen has clinical and leadership expertise. Prior to this appointment, she joined TeamHealth through the Emergency Medicine Consultants (EMC) acquisition, where she served as the chief safety and quality officer for EMC of TeamHealth, overseeing and directing quality initiatives, risk management and educational programming. She has also participated as co-chair of TeamHealth’s Clinical Resiliency committee.
Dr. Owen received her undergraduate degree in neuroscience and behavioral biology from Emory University and her medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas and is a board-certified emergency medicine physician. Dr. Owen has been an active member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), currently serving on the Quality and Patient Safety Committee and is a delegate to the ACEP Council. She is a past president of Texas College of Emergency Physicians (TCEP) and served on the TCEP Board for more than 10 years.
