William Tapscott, MD, national medical director for TeamHealth General Surgery, leads the strategic vision for the service line to optimize clinical and operational performance. Dr. Tapscott has more than 20 years of experience as a surgeon with a demonstrated history of leadership in the hospital and healthcare industry.

Dr. Tapscott joined TeamHealth in 2014 as facility medical director at St. Vincent’s Birmingham. Then, he served as assistant regional medical director for TeamHealth General Surgery. Prior to working with TeamHealth, he served as surgery residency program director at Baptist Health System of Alabama.

Dr. Tapscott received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College and his medical degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency at Baptist Health System of Alabama. He is a board-certified surgeon and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
