As COVID-19 cases rapidly developed across the country, El Paso, Texas, became an epicenter for the third wave of the outbreak. TeamHealth immediately deployed more than two dozen physicians who traveled to the region from various locations to aid in the crisis. Emergency privileges were granted for these clinicians in addition to on-site teams working extra shifts.
The entire state of Texas was hit especially hard, but 70% of the patient population in El Paso were COVID-positive and in need of immediate care. The surge strained hospital capacity and the area’s public health infrastructure to a breaking point. Thanks to experience shared between TeamHealth clinicians in response to COVID-19 surges in New York and South Florida and close ties with hospital partners, clinicians were rapidly credentialed and quickly began providing care to patients.
