Patient safety has always been a priority in healthcare; however, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for sustainable, effective protocols to ensure safety and quality during challenging and unprecedented times. When a 376-bed hospital’s leadership sought enhanced patient safety measures and reduced hospital-acquired infections, TeamHealth worked collaboratively with them, to lead the change.
The Challenge
Every healthcare facility faces patient safety challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic only heightened obstacles to improved safety measures. The CDC reported that in 2021, rates of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) had predictably risen in response to longer lengths of stay, higher acuity patients and more. With this in mind, it is more important than ever for hospitals and health systems to consider their existing safety practices and adjust accordingly to avoid negative impacts on patient care.
